What to expect
Hardwired, interconnected smoke detectors are required in all new Ontario homes and in any home where the electrical system is being significantly modified. When one detector goes off, all detectors in the home alarm simultaneously - this is critical for homes with sleeping occupants on multiple floors.
We install hardwired combination smoke/CO detectors in the required locations: on every floor, outside every sleeping area, and inside every bedroom. We wire them in series so they all communicate, and include battery backup so they function even during a power outage.
We also replace old battery-only or first-generation hardwired detectors with current-generation units with 10-year sealed batteries as backup. If your home still has individual (non-interconnected) detectors, upgrading to an interconnected system significantly improves your family's protection.
