Generator Installation in Toronto & GTA

Toronto's ice storms and summer outages make a backup generator increasingly valuable for homeowners and businesses. RK Power Electric installs generator transfer switches and connects standby and portable generators to your home's electrical system safely.

What to expect

We install manual and automatic transfer switches (ATS) for both portable and standby generators. A proper transfer switch is essential - connecting a generator without one (backfeeding) is illegal in Ontario and extremely dangerous to utility workers.

For portable generators, we install a dedicated transfer switch and inlet box so you can connect your generator with a single plug - no dangerous extension cords running through windows. We can also install a subpanel fed by the transfer switch to power your critical loads.

For whole-home standby generators (Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton), we handle the complete electrical installation: transfer switch, utility disconnect, generator connection, and coordination with your generator supplier and gas fitter.

Common questions

Do I need a permit for a generator installation in Toronto?
Yes - any generator connected to your home's electrical system requires an ESA permit. We handle all permits.
Can I connect a generator myself in Toronto?
Ontario code requires a licensed electrician to install the transfer switch and make the connection to your panel. Improper connections can cause electrocution or fires.
