Hot Tub & Spa Wiring in Toronto

Installing a hot tub or swim spa requires a dedicated 240V electrical circuit installed by a licensed electrician - it's both code and common sense. RK Power Electric handles all hot tub wiring across Toronto and the GTA safely and to ESA standards.

What to expect

Most hot tubs require a dedicated 240V, 50-amp GFCI-protected circuit run from your main panel to a disconnect box within sight of the hot tub, and then to the tub itself. The disconnect box must be positioned at the correct distance from the water per Ontario Electrical Code.

We run the required wiring (typically underground conduit from your panel to the outdoor disconnect and then to the hot tub), install the GFCI-protected disconnect, and connect to the hot tub's internal wiring. We pull all required ESA permits and coordinate the inspection.

We're familiar with all major hot tub brands and their specific electrical requirements. We also ensure your main panel has adequate capacity - if not, we advise on the panel upgrade needed before installation.

Common questions

What size breaker does a hot tub need?
Most hot tubs require a 50-amp, 240V GFCI-protected dedicated circuit. Some smaller models use 20-amp/120V plug-in connections. We confirm the requirements from your hot tub's spec sheet.
How far does the disconnect need to be from the hot tub?
Ontario code requires the disconnect box to be within sight of the hot tub, but at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) from the water's edge.
