GFCI Outlet Installation in Toronto

GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets protect against electrical shock in wet areas. Ontario Electrical Code requires GFCI protection in bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoors, and unfinished basements. RK Power Electric installs GFCI outlets across Toronto to keep your home safe and code-compliant.

What to expect

A GFCI outlet monitors the current flowing in and out of a circuit. If it detects a ground fault - even as small as 5 milliamps - it cuts power in under 1/40th of a second. This rapid response can mean the difference between a minor shock and a fatal electrocution.

We install GFCI outlets in all required locations and test each one with a dedicated circuit tester. We also replace old two-prong outlets with GFCI outlets in ungrounded circuits - this is an ESA-approved method that adds shock protection without requiring a complete rewire.

We install tamper-resistant GFCI outlets (TR-GFCI) in homes with children - these have built-in shutters that prevent children from inserting objects into the slots.

Common questions

Where are GFCI outlets required in Toronto homes?
Ontario code requires GFCI protection in bathrooms, kitchens (within 1.5m of a sink), garages, outdoors, swimming pool areas, and unfinished basements.
Can I replace a two-prong outlet with a GFCI outlet?
Yes - ESA allows replacing two-prong outlets with GFCI outlets in ungrounded circuits, provided the outlet is labelled "No Equipment Ground." This adds shock protection without full rewiring.
