Kitchen Electrical Upgrades in Toronto

Modern kitchens demand more electrical capacity than ever. Between the refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, range, and all the countertop appliances, the kitchen is the most electrically intensive room in your home. RK Power Electric wires and upgrades Toronto kitchens safely and to code.

What to expect

Ontario Electrical Code requires at least two dedicated 20-amp countertop circuits in every kitchen. Many older Toronto homes have just one - or none. We add the required circuits, replace two-prong outlets with grounded three-prong GFCI-protected outlets, and add capacity for your appliances.

Kitchen renovation electrical work includes: dedicated circuits for the microwave, dishwasher, range hood and refrigerator; proper GFCI outlet placement above countertops; under-cabinet lighting; pot lights; island outlets; and range circuit (240V for electric ranges).

We coordinate directly with your kitchen renovation contractor and can work to your schedule. Rough-in wiring is done before drywall and cabinetry; trim-out (installing devices and fixtures) is done after. We're experienced at keeping kitchen renos on schedule.

Common questions

How many circuits does a kitchen need in Toronto?
Ontario code requires a minimum of two 20-amp small appliance circuits, plus dedicated circuits for the refrigerator, dishwasher, and range. Most modern kitchens need 8-12 circuits total.
Do I need GFCI outlets in my kitchen?
Yes - all countertop outlets within 6 feet of a sink must be GFCI-protected per Ontario Electrical Code. We install and test all GFCI outlets.
